About this highway

This is Highway 1 from the Ironworkers down through the Cassiar Tunnel, across Burnaby past Willingdon and Gaglardi, through the Brunette interchange and on to the Cape Horn approach to the Port Mann. Everyone calls it the freeway or just Highway 1; the signs say Trans-Canada. It is the busiest inland stretch the station reports and the one where an incident is felt furthest, because the Cassiar at one end and Cape Horn at the other are both single points with no way around. The morning push is westbound toward the Cassiar and the afternoon one eastbound toward the Port Mann, and the Brunette ramps are the usual place it comes apart. The alternates are the Lougheed for anything local and Canada Way through Burnaby, both of them slower but rarely stopped outright.
