About this highway

The Upper Levels is Highway 1 across the North Shore, from the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal and the Sea-to-Sky junction through West Vancouver and North Vancouver to the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge. Locals say the Upper Levels, and the stretch below Lonsdale is the Cut; the signs say Highway 1 and Trans-Canada. It is four lanes for most of its length with no shoulder in the Cut, which is why a single stall there closes a lane and backs traffic to Taylor Way. Mornings run eastbound toward the Ironworkers and the Lions Gate, afternoons westbound toward West Van and Horseshoe Bay, and both bridges feed it, so a problem on either one arrives here within minutes. There is no parallel route: Marine Drive is the only alternate and it is a city street with lights the whole way.

Questions

How current is the Upper Levels report?
Vancouver604 publishes a new cycle every fifteen minutes. The time at the top of the page is when the cycle you are reading was published, and the page, the JSON feed and the player all show the same cycle.
What does it mean when the Upper Levels is not in the report?
That the station had nothing to say about it. Vancouver604 reports what drivers and the public road feeds are seeing; a highway that is moving is not mentioned, so a quiet page usually means a clear road.
Which zones cover the Upper Levels?
North Shore, Vancouver / UBC and Sea-to-Sky. The crossing's report is drawn from every zone in the cycle, so it is found whichever side the station described it from.
Can I listen instead of reading?
Yes. Press play on this page or in the free iOS app, which also works in CarPlay so your hands stay on the wheel.
Is Vancouver604 an emergency service?
No. Vancouver604 is a community information service. In an emergency call 911. Never use your phone while driving.
