About this crossing
The Lions Gate carries Highway 99 over the First Narrows between the North Shore and Stanley Park: three lanes, the middle one reversed to the rush direction, so two lanes point at downtown in the morning and two at West Vancouver in the afternoon. Locals say the Lions Gate or the First Narrows; the causeway is the road through Stanley Park that feeds it, and a queue on one is a queue on the other. Mornings it backs up Marine Drive and Taylor Way in West Van; afternoons the causeway backs into the West End and along Georgia. The alternate is the Ironworkers via the Upper Levels and Highway 1, which is the longer way round to downtown but often the faster one.
Questions
- How current is the Lions Gate report?
- Vancouver604 publishes a new cycle every fifteen minutes. The time at the top of the page is when the cycle you are reading was published, and the page, the JSON feed and the player all show the same cycle.
- What does it mean when the Lions Gate is not in the report?
- That the station had nothing to say about it. Vancouver604 reports what drivers and the public road feeds are seeing; a crossing that is moving is not mentioned, so a quiet page usually means a clear bridge.
- Which zones cover the Lions Gate?
- North Shore and Vancouver / UBC. The crossing's report is drawn from every zone in the cycle, so it is found whichever side the station described it from.
- Can I listen instead of reading?
- Yes. Press play on this page or in the free iOS app, which also works in CarPlay so your hands stay on the wheel.
- Is Vancouver604 an emergency service?
- No. Vancouver604 is a community information service. In an emergency call 911. Never use your phone while driving.
