The Stal̕əw̓asəm Bridge, pronounced STAHL-oh-AH-sum, carries traffic over the Fraser between New Westminster and Surrey on the crossing that replaced the Pattullo: four lanes, wide enough to be widened, with the old bridge beside it coming down. The name is hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓, given by the Musqueam Indian Band and the Kwantlen First Nation, and it means a space where you can view the river, which is where the English name Riverview comes from. Say it Stahl-oh-ah-sum; it flows about like Stalo awesome. Locals and the signs still use Riverview and plenty of people still say the old name. It links Royal Avenue and McBride on the New Westminster side to King George Boulevard and the Whalley approaches in Surrey, so its rush is King George northbound in the morning and Royal Avenue southbound in the afternoon, and it is the free alternate when the Port Mann is stopped. The alternates are the Port Mann on Highway 1 and the Alex Fraser via Highway 91A and Queensborough.
