About this highway
Highway 7B, the Mary Hill Bypass, is the four-lane cutoff along the Fraser between Port Coquitlam and the Cape Horn interchange, built so through traffic could skip the Lougheed and the Coquitlam town centre. Everyone says the Mary Hill; the signs say Highway 7B. It is short, fast and almost entirely dependent on what is happening at either end: Cape Horn feeds it straight into Highway 1 and the Port Mann, so a backup on the bridge fills the bypass within minutes, and the Pitt River Bridge does the same from the other direction. Its own rush is westbound in the morning and eastbound in the afternoon. The alternate is the Lougheed itself, which is slower but has somewhere to turn off.
