About this highway
Highway 7, the Lougheed, runs from Burnaby through Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam, over the Pitt River Bridge and along the north side of the Fraser through Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge to Mission. Everyone calls it the Lougheed; the signs say Highway 7. It is a highway in name and an arterial in practice for most of its length, with signals through every town centre, and that is what makes it slow rather than any single bottleneck. It is also the only through road on the north side of the river, so when Highway 1 is closed east of the Port Mann this is where that traffic goes. Mornings run west toward Coquitlam and Burnaby, afternoons east toward Maple Ridge. The alternates are the Mary Hill Bypass at the western end and the Golden Ears Bridge for anything crossing south.
